Paralegal Job Duties – Job Description Of A Paralegal
Not all people who live in the legal world are lawyers. There are people who are under them and are with them whichever place they are. These people are found in criminal trials, in real estate, in the government, in estate planning, and in companies, to assist lawyers and help out with the administration of legal documents. We call them the paralegals or the legal assistants. By definition, paralegals are legal assistants employed by companies, lawyers, law offices, governmental agencies or other institutions, wherein they are tasked to administer substantive and procedural legal work that may be, first-hand, done by a lawyer. They are authorized by law to do so and are qualified through training, education and work experience. They are also bound by professional ethics. The paralegals may acquire their formal education and training, and work as certified legal assistants. Others initially work inside a legal atmosphere, and may be employed by superiors as they become more verse with the legal world and its substantive transactions.
Their jobs include summarizing legal documents, performing records research, performing records research, coordinating research, checking legal forms for accuracy, preparing reports, preparing correspondence, drafting all sorts of legal documents, preparing declarations and preparing form complaints. These, among other things, are their main responsibility. Other additional jobs expected from them may be decided upon by their lawyer, or their hiring company. To be a paralegal, one is expected to have most or all of these skills: the ability to perform legal research, the ability to interview witnesses and document what is learned, good writing and communication skills, the ability to prioritize and work under a tight schedule, basic computer skills, in depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles, and the ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
