Question about the difference between legal assistant and paralegal?

March 13th, 2010 · 1 Comment · paralegal

My daughter is interested in becoming a paralegal. We were looking at the college catalog and they offered a one year course (certificate) and an associates degree. What kind of jobs can she get with a certificate versus a degree. Also what would the difference in salary be.
I’m also needing to know if anyone can tell us what it’s like being a paralegal and they like it or not.

Thanks!

In many cases, the terms "paralegal" and "legal assistant" are roughly synonymous – both refer to support positions that assist lawyers with tasks such as preparing for trial or conducting legal research. The two are also similar in that the hours worked by both of these legal professionals are billed to clients by private law firms. In fact, most court rules, statutes, and bar association rules define the jobs as the same.
